
During the procedure, you should not feel pain as the surgery is perform under local anesthesia. You might feel some pressure, vibration from the drill and some water inside your mouth. After the local anesthesia wears off, you might experience discomfort, mild to moderate pain. The pain usually can be managed by taking pain killers.
You might expect minimal swelling, it can be reduced by placing ice pack on the area. Avoid hot drinks, hot and spicy food, as it will add stress to your mouth’s tissue. Do not eat hard foods for the first couple of days after dental implants surgery, take soft diet instead. Avoid rinse after surgery, use the extra soft toothbrush and brush your teeth gently to not harm the affected area. Keep your mouth clean and bacteria-free, you may start rinse with warm salt water after few days.
With proper cared, brushing, flossing and regular dental visit, an implant can last a lifetime. The crown may need to replace after about 10-15 years due to wear and tear.
